Year 6 Roles and Responsibilities

In Year 6 all pupils are given some responsibility to help the school community run smoothly.  Some children are chosen to be Prefects which involves roles such as helping the lunchtime supervisors during wet play in the lower school.  Other roles include:- Head Teacher Helpers, Sports Crew, School Council, Digital Leaders, Peer Mentors, House Point Monitors, Bench Monitors, Librarians, House Captains, Reading Buddies, Stationery Shop, Mr. Findlay Helpers, Reading Ambassadors and Deputy Head Helpers / Lost Property.

Ambassadors

Every year two Year 6 pupils are elected as school ambassadors following an application process and presentation to the whole school.  This is an exciting  role at WFJS holds a great deal of importance and responsibility across the school.

Ambassadors role is to:-

  • Lead and represent the pupils at school-wide functions, such as Open Days and Parents’ Consultation Days, meeting with and talking to adults and pupils.
  • Be expected to lead school-wide tours for visitors and to answer questions as well as share the schools vision with visitors.
  • Be required to chair one of the School Council meetings, expected to lead on meetings within this committee and liaise with the relevant members of SLT to discuss the ideas presented.
  • Be expected to speak in front of parents and members of SLT, discussing their experiences and sharing the ideas of pupils in a formal manner. 
  • Prepare & lead assemblies a year to promote the school's vision on the 2025-2026 vision linked to: promoting sustainability, raising awareness about climate change, encouraging eco awareness and supporting our vision for outdoor learning.

The Ambassadors elected for 2025/2026 by the whole school were Violet D, Peggy K and Monty W.

"Hello my name is Peggy and I was chosen to be your school ambassador. When they said my name I was speechless I just could not believe it. I thought I would be at least second place of ambassador but I had actually got the most votes. When they were announcing second place I could not believe who would be with me and when it was Monty and Violet I was even more happy. I just want to say a special thanks to all the school pupils who voted for me. I am just so happy I can not wait for the rest of the year." Peggy K


"Hello my name is Monty and I am in utter disbelief that I won the prestigious role and I cannot wait to represent the school at meetings with our governors as I believe that we our some of the few pupils who can and will deliver improvements to this stupendous school that I hope will educate generations for years to come as these are the people who will change our country and the world. I myself am hoping to go to Tiffin and then move to Oxford or Cambridge and go into Robotics." Monty W

School Council

The School Council at Wallace Fields Junior School is the voice of the children and each councillor is elected by their class to represent the needs, ideas and inspiration of the children.

School Council members are expected to:

  • Brilliance: Bring along brilliant their ideas and those they have heard from their peers.
  • Equality: Treat everyone with equal consideration
  • Learn: Consider ideas and learn how best to deal with any problems
  • Inspiration: To take peer inspiration and ideas and convey them to the council.
  • Enthusiasm: Take their role seriously and get fully involved in meetings
  • Vision: Look ahead to how decisions affect the future and what the school’s goals are.
  • Every Pupil Matters: To listen to everyone’s view and consider them, including pupils, teachers and other councillors.

The school council expects the adults at Wallace Fields Junior School to:

  • Respect the views of the School Council
  • Carefully consider each of the school Council’s ideas and proposals
  • Support the role and purpose of the School Council

The School council meet Mr Lee once a month in the library between 12.00pm and 12.40pm. Minutes are written.  Every month the school council consult their class and look at feedback from the suggestions box.
