International Activities

At Wallace Fields Junior School, we are committed to developing our pupils as global citizens. Through a wide range of international projects, cultural experiences and partnerships with schools around the world, children learn to appreciate diversity, broaden their understanding of different cultures and develop respect for others.

Our international programme is woven throughout the curriculum and provides meaningful opportunities for pupils to connect with the wider world through languages, history, STEM, wellbeing and cultural exchange.

Celebrating Diversity

Diversity is at the heart of our school community. Through assemblies, curriculum projects, language learning, cultural celebrations and our annual Diversity Day, pupils develop an understanding of different cultures, faiths and perspectives. We are proud of our inclusive school community and actively promote equality, respect and belonging for all.

International Partnerships

Pupils have opportunities to collaborate with schools around the world through shared projects, pen pal schemes and virtual meetings.

Recent partnerships have included:

  • Year 3 collaboration with a school in New Delhi, India.
  • Year 4 cultural exchange and geography project with a school in Kenya.
  • International pen pals and debate opportunities through the Young Historians Programme.

These experiences help pupils develop curiosity, empathy and a broader global perspective.

Languages and Cultural Understanding

Language learning is brought to life through a range of engaging experiences, including:

  • French lessons and the annual Top Translator competition.
  • A Year 6 residential visit to France.
  • British Sign Language Club.
  • Workshops exploring other cultures and languages, including Mexico and India.

By using language in real-life contexts, pupils gain confidence and a deeper appreciation of different cultures.

International History and Global Learning

Our curriculum encourages pupils to explore significant global events and perspectives. Through programmes such as the Young Historians Project, children research, debate and discuss historical issues while developing critical thinking, communication and enquiry skills.

STEM and the Wider World

Through science, technology, engineering and mathematics, pupils explore global challenges and innovations. Activities such as British Science Week, engineering workshops, STEM ambassador visits and sustainability projects encourage children to think about how they can contribute to the future of our planet.

Wellbeing and Global Citizenship

Pupils learn about wellbeing through activities including mindfulness, yoga, outdoor learning and wellbeing events. These experiences help children develop resilience, self-awareness and strategies to support positive mental health.

Team Up for Change

Our commitment to inclusion extends beyond cultural awareness. Through initiatives that celebrate diversity and challenge discrimination, pupils learn the importance of fairness, respect and equality. Activities such as Black History Month and anti-racism projects encourage children to become thoughtful, compassionate citizens.
