Equality, Diversity and Inclusion
At Wallace Fields Junior School, we are committed to creating a welcoming, inclusive and respectful environment where every child feels valued and can thrive. Through our curriculum, assemblies, PSHE lessons, literature, international links and themed events, we help pupils develop an understanding of different cultures, faiths, backgrounds, abilities and experiences.
We celebrate diversity throughout the year while encouraging children to reflect on fairness, equality and the importance of treating others with kindness and respect.
Our Commitment
Our aim is to:
- Promote equality of opportunity for all.
- Celebrate the rich diversity within our school and wider community.
- Foster respect, empathy and understanding.
- Challenge discrimination and prejudice.
- Prepare children to be responsible citizens in a diverse society.
Please see our Equality Policy for further information and other policies by clicking here.
Diversity Day
Our annual Diversity Day provides an opportunity for pupils to celebrate their culture, heritage and identity. Through workshops, stories, art, music and discussion, children learn about the experiences and traditions of others while recognising the value of inclusion and belonging. For more about our Diversity day click here.
Black History Month
Each year, pupils take part in a range of learning activities during Black History Month. Through age-appropriate projects across the curriculum, children explore the achievements and contributions of influential Black individuals in areas including history, science, sport, politics and the arts.
Recent topics have included:
- Nelson Mandela and his legacy.
- Inspirational Black scientists and innovators.
- Influential Black British women.
- Significant historical and contemporary role models.
These activities encourage pupils to appreciate diverse contributions to society and deepen their understanding of equality and social justice.
International Learning
As part of our international programme, pupils engage with schools and organisations around the world. Recent projects have included the Young Historians Programme and an international debate with pupils in the United States, helping children develop confidence, critical thinking skills and a broader understanding of global perspectives. A School for Everyone
Our inclusive values underpin everything we do. We are proud of our diverse school community and remain committed to ensuring every child feels safe, respected, represented and able to succeed. See more about our School Values by clicking here.
