On 8th October, Year 5 enjoyed an exciting fieldwork visit to the Hogsmill River as part of their geography learning. The trip provided a fantastic opportunity for the children to investigate the features of a river first-hand and carry out fieldwork in our local area. By observing, measuring and exploring the river environment, the children deepened their understanding of how rivers shape the landscape and the important role they play within our community.

The visit also brought local history to life. The children learned about the historic gunpowder mills that once operated alongside the Hogsmill River and explored the river's importance to the growth and development of the surrounding area. They also discovered the connection between the Hogsmill and famous Pre-Raphaelite artists, including John Everett Millais and William Holman Hunt, who found inspiration in the local landscape and used local scenes within their artwork.

A huge thank you to all the staff who helped me make the trip possible and ensured the children had such a valuable and enjoyable experience: Miss Hill, Mrs Thompson, Mrs Baxter, Mrs Miller, Mr Lee and the indefatigable Mrs Hernandez. Your support, enthusiasm and commitment were greatly appreciated and helped make the day such a success.
